THE 8-BIT CONSTRUCTION SET
ATARI VS COMMODORE
Beige Records/US/12

Any child of the '80s can attest to countless afternoons getting souped up on Slush Puppies and logging marathon sessions mesmerized by the pixelated visions generated by their Atari gaming system. The 8-Bit Construction Set brings back all those memories and more. A DJ tools/concept record of sorts, one side features music made on the eary Atari computer system while the other is based on sounds of the Commodore 64. Video game bleeps and zaps abound, along with a dozen or so locked electro grooves, two original tracks created on the early machines and (get this) computer programs stored on the vinyl in the form of oscillating pulses and tones! When this data is recorded to a normal cassette and fed to one of the original Atari or C64 machines, a mystery program will run. Absolute genius, from the moment you drop the needle to the inevitable "game over." Brock Phillips
