Closing for Inventory - New York, Sunday June 8th, 2008
Ill be Djing (as JD Salinger) on Sunday for a book release party for a new book project I recently did in collaboration with Dexter Sinister (www.dextersinister.org/)...my DJ set will be based off of Paul Morley's essay in the book titled REPRODUCTION. This all is probably a bit confusing (because the essay is actually about a video I made, and Moog, and Gould, and 1 million other things) so as for the content of the records I will be bringing, think along the lines of The Monkeys, Robert Rental, Richard Strauss, and Tangerine Dream, ... alot of Tangerine Dream. I will only be bringing one turn table, so also be prepared for alot of awkward silence. Also at the same time in the same building upstairs (aka Kunstverein München Goethe Institut New York) will be a performance by KEN OKIISHI & NICK MAUSS at 7pm.
I am super honored to be in a show with 2 of my fav artists,....Drx and Olia at And/Or in Texas tomorrow. So please stop by if you can. "Artist Run Through" of the show will be at 730pm. Performance by Treewave 830(ish)......FYI: Untitled Translation Exercise makes its Texas debut!, also I am showing a self playing bowling video game , a Photoshop print (as seen above) , and some other odds and ends to be determined, or possible made tomorrow morning. c u there..........
A couple years ago I made a very small video application called "Colors". This video came out of my interest in wanting to make something using slit scan. This is a very common and quite easy technique where basically something is photographed through a slit. After spending some time trying to teach myself how quicktime works and how video is displayed on a modern computer, I finally ended up with Colors. Anyway, basically Colors PE (the personal edition version) is a small application that will play any quicktime movie using a slit scan technique one line at a time starting from the top. Personally, for my version, I used it to play the movie Colors by Dennis Hopper (to play every color in the movie takes 33 days). So here is the program in case anyone is bored, has some time on their hands, and wants to try it at home. Disclaimer: This version requires some legwork to get working, FYI.
The awesome live mess that is Paper Rad is coming to the Museum of Modern Art's Pop Rally,....to refresh your memory, it's the type of thing that usually has Cat Power like stuff.
