THE 8-BIT CONSTRUCTION SET
ATARI VS COMMODORE
Beige Records/US/12

This is the best thing I've ever received to review for the zine. Not that this is the best music item. By no means is it music in the traditional sense. Rather, this is a 12" vinyl record of Atari and Commodore 64 soundclips from games such as Pac-Man, Space Invader and Defender, commercials (including one featuring Alan Alda from M*A*S*H) and what-have-you which have been put together for all you DJs and mixmasters (Kurt writes that with no understanding of the difference between the two. He just thought it would sound "hip"). There are some crazy loops on here that were constructed entirely of Atari sounds, creating some hip, 1980s beats for all of us who can actually remember growing up with this shit. While this isnĚt for your average indie rock fan, fuck it. This is a collector's item and great idea. Hurray for everything. -Kurt
